Huge crowds close gates at March Madness Music Festival

By 7 p.m. Saturday the gates were closed at the downtown March Madness Music Festival due to the mass amount of fans present. Officials said they were at capacity and the gates would not open again for the rest of the night.

HOUSTON - Thousands showed up downtown for the free March Madness Music Festival on Saturday in downtown Houston.

By 7 p.m. officials said they had reached maximum capacity and the gates were closed for the rest of the night.

Kendrick Lamar and Jason Derulo hit the stage and performed to a sea of fans at Discovery Green.

Some fans present sat on friends' shoulders to see the artists while others took selfies in the crowd.

But most couldn't believe their luck to see such main-stream musicians at a free concert.

On Sunday, Maroon 5, Pitbull, Flo Rida and Aloe Blacc will perform.

Officials expect Sunday crowds to be even bigger than what they saw on Saturday.

The Capitol One JamFest begins at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
