East End residents frustrated, saying Greyhound station is bringing crime to the area

Residents in Houston's East End reported an increase in crime, panhandling and traffic ever since Greyhound moved its operations from Midtown to their neighborhood.

HOUSTON — Residents are frustrated after they said there's been a spike in traffic, panhandling and crime in the two months since Greyhound closed its longtime Midtown station and expanded to Houston's East End.

Residents took their concerns to lawmakers, who said they want to see increased security in the area along Harrisburg Boulevard east of Wayside.

"We feel like we just got the short end of the stick and we are not happy that our community has been a dumping ground. We are very, very upset. Who would want their kids walking past a Greyhound bus station where former inmates are being dropped off?" Rep. Christina Morales said.

Morales said they'd like to see the station move to a more industrial area that's away from schools and homes. In the meantime, she said police should ramp up patrols in the area.
