Flights resume at Hobby Airport after emergency runway repairs had them grounded

The ground stop started at 4 p.m. and lasted nearly three hours.

HOUSTON — A ground stop at Hobby Airport was lifted nearly three hours after it was issued. The stoppage was caused by an issue on a runway that needed emergency repairs.

According to a post on X from Hobby Airport, the problem was with Runway 13R/31L From Air 11, we could see damaged concrete on the runway and crews working to repair it.

Airport officials said the ground stop began at 4 p.m. By 6:40 p.m., Hobby Airport said normal operations had resumed. The airport also said no flights were canceled because of the issue.

At this point, it's not clear what led to the damaged runway. As we learn more, we'll post it here.

This is the second time this month that a runway issue caused issues at Hobby Airport. On July 10, arrivals and departures were stopped to make runway repairs.
