GALVESTON, Texas — A young woman from the Houston area drowned Friday morning in the Bermuda Beach area, according to the Galveston Beach Patrol.

A bystander called after seeing the victim's body face-down in shallow water near FM 3005/ Termini-San Luis Pass Road and Pabst Road.

The witness said they'd noticed the woman running and swimming in the area around 6:30 a.m. About an hour later, they saw her lying motionless and face-down in ankle-deep water. They called 911 and pulled her to shore.

Along with beach patrol, the Galveston Fire Department, EMS and police department responded to the scene.

When Air 11 flew over, investigators were taking photos of a car believed to be the victim's parked on the beach near where her body was found.

The name of the 27-year-old woman hasn't been released.

The water was calm at the time and there was only a green flag warning for winds offshore.
