96-year-old woman badly burned in north Houston house fire, HFD says

The victim was pulled from a burning home and rushed to the hospital with burns over 80 percent of her body, according to the Houston Fire Department.

HOUSTON — An elderly Houston woman was badly burned when her northside home went up in flames Wednesday afternoon and she was trapped inside.

The 96-year-old victim was rescued by Houston firefighters and rushed to the hospital in "very critical condition." She had burns over 80% of her body.

The Houston Fire Department said they responded within five minutes after receiving the call of a person trapped in the home on Robertson near Calvacade at 3:15 p.m.

Neighbors said they tried to get inside to help the woman after hearing her screaming for help before the fire trucks got there.

"We heard her say, 'Help me, help me,'" one neighbor told us.

Another neighbor told us the victim lives alone and uses a walker.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
