HOUSTON — A teen was left in critical condition Saturday night after he was hit by a Houston Police Department patrol car while crossing the street on an electric scooter downtown, police said.

The crash happened around 9:40 p.m. at the intersection of Crawford Street and Rusk Street.

HPD said the patrol vehicle was driving on Rusk Street through the intersection when the 16-year-old crossed in front of him. The officer did have a green light at the time, according to police.

The teen was taken to an area hospital with critical injuries but is expected to survive.

HPD said the crash will be fully investigated the same way it would be for any crash involving a city vehicle.
