Scrap metal fire at recycling plant contained, Cy-Fair Fire Department says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — The Cy-Fair Fire Department battled a large scrap metal fire at a metal recycling facility Thursday morning.

This happened at a facility on FM 529 near U.S. 290. The fire department first posted about the fire on social media at 7:06 a.m. Just before 11 a.m., Assistant Fire Chief Clements said the fire had been contained but crews were still working the scene.

Multiple roads were closed in the area as fire crews responded to the scene, including FM 529, Fairview and Wright Road, the fire department said.

No injuries were reported in the fire. 

The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office said inspections and HazMat crews were at the scene to help. Clements said crews would be working the scene throughout the day.

We don't yet know what sparked the fire.
