Church giving away free gas this weekend

The Kingdom Church of Houston is promising to give away free fuel to motorists at the Chevron filling station on South University Boulevard and Highway 6 in Missouri City this Saturday.

Even in biblical times, oil was a precious commodity. But the prophets may not have imagined a gas giveaway quite like this one.

The Kingdom Church of Houston is promising to give away free fuel to motorists at the Chevron filling station on South University Boulevard and Highway 6 in Missouri City this Saturday.

The church pre-bought thousand of dollars in gas and says it will fill up cars on a first-come, first-served basis. The giveaway starts at 10 a.m. July 9 and will run until 2 p.m. or when the purchased fuel runs out.

"It's something that everybody needs. We wanted something everybody could make use of, so we would attract a large amount of people," said Bishop Demetrius Sinegal.

Right now, the church only has around 30 members and does not have a building of its own. Congregation members hope that by filling up driver's tanks, they might eventually fill up their pews.

Church leaders promise there will be no pressure to join or donate money.

"It's giving us the opportunity to talk to more people, pray for more people and be kind to somebody," Sinegal said.
