Sheriff: Two men using generator while working inside trailer found dead in Channelview area

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said a HazMat team was on the scene and there were high levels of carbon monoxide.

CHANNELVIEW, Texas — Two men were found dead Sunday in the Channelview area in a trailer they were working on to live in, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. He said the two were using a generator.

This happened on John Drive in the Channelview Village community.

Gonzalez said a HazMat team was on the scene and there were high levels of carbon monoxide.

"One appeared to go to sleep and the other appeared to have fallen out," the sheriff said in a post on X.

The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office said the carbon monoxide levels have since dissipated and there is no threat to the area.

"The immediately dangerous to life and health level for carbon monoxide is 1,200 parts per million. Their meters were maxed out. They could not reach any higher than 500. So, they were at least 500, probably higher but we don't know how much higher," said Lt. James Lanphear with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office.

Gonzalez said foul play is not suspected.
