BELLAIRE, Texas — Bellaire High School was placed in secure mode Wednesday afternoon while police investigated a bomb threat, according to the Houston ISD.
The Bellaire Police Department said it was assisting Houston ISD police with the investigation.
"Please avoid the area until HISD has completed the investigation," BPD said in a Facebook post.
Bellaire High School Principal Michael Niggli sent a message to parents informing them of the threat. Niggli said the campus was put into secure mode at 12:15 p.m. Read his full message below:
"This is an important message for Bellaire HS parents from Principal Niggli. I want to inform you that at approximately 12:15 pm our school was placed in secure mode while HISD Police investigated a bomb threat that was made to our campus. During a secure status, students remain in their classrooms, and classes proceed as usual, though movement within the school is restricted. We assure you that we take all threats seriously as the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. We will send an update soon. Again, this was an important message for Bellaire HS parents and students from Principal Niggli."
Bellaire police said the school returned to normal operations just before 2 p.m. and students were released a short time later.
This comes after an incident at another HISD school. Wednesday morning, district police said a student was arrested after stabbing another student during a fight at Sterling High School.
This is a developing story that will be updated as we learn more about it.
