Beaumont news anchor dies in La. accident

A reporter and news anchor for a Texas television station has died in a Louisiana traffic accident.

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) -- A reporter and news anchor for a Texas television station has died in a Louisiana traffic accident.

Louisiana State Police said 48-year-old William Leger, of Beaumont, died after the 2012 Jeep he was driving ran off the road at a curve on Louisiana Highway 93 in Lafayette Parish. State police said Leger overcorrected, which caused the Jeep to roll over. It came to rest in the northbound lane, where it was struck by another car.

The accident happened around 1 a.m. Saturday. Troopers were trying to determine whether Leger was fatally injured before or after the Jeep was struck by the other car.

Leger was a native of Kinder, La.

He was an anchor at KFDM in Beaumont. The station said funeral plans were pending.
