89-year-old man hit, killed while crossing street near downtown Houston

The man was crossing the street near downtown Houston when he was hit by a large truck and taken to the hospital.

HOUSTON - An elderly man was hit and killed while crossing a street near downtown Houston early Monday morning.

Around 6:30 a.m., the man was walking in the 200 block of West Gray when he was hit by a black Dodge Ram truck, according to the Houston Police Department.

The driver of the truck told officers he was stopped at a red light at Gray Street and when the light turned green, he turned right and hit the man.

It's unknown at this time whether the driver or the pedestrian had the right of way.

The pedestrian was taken to Saint Joseph Medical Center by ambulance and then he was transferred to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he died.

Police have not yet released the victim's identity.

The driver of the Dodge Ram stayed at the scene and was questioned by police. At this time, no charges have been filed as the investigation is ongoing.
