Manvel students buy janitors lunch just to say 'thank you'

Students are serving up a surprise they deserve: A pasta dinner and a red velvet cake to help them say "nothing bundt" thank you.

MANVEL, Texas - In a school of nearly 2,000 kids, it’s a small group of adults at Manvel High School who they want to be noticed.

“People don’t interact with them, people don’t talk to them," senior Victoria Guererro said. "I know it’s their job, but at the same time, I just want to do something nice for them.”

With help from her engineering club, Guerrero is putting her janitors in the spotlight.

“I just don’t think that the janitors are someone appreciated as much everywhere," junior Victoria Reid said.

Students are serving up a surprise they deserve: A pasta dinner and a red velvet cake to help them say “nothing bundt” thank you.

“We usually don’t ever get anything like this for us, so it was nice for them to set this up for us, for the custodians," lead custodian Sabrina Lucas said.

It's a lesson learned outside the classroom.

“It don’t matter who you are, where you are. It don’t matter if you’re a CEO, or if you’re picking up trash. It doesn’t matter, respect everyone," engineering instructor Jacob Smith said.

In the end, the students cleaned up after the crew who does the same for them every other day.

“Just thank you for looking out, without wanting anything in return. They’re not rude to anyone, they just do their job and they’re courteous, so thank you," Reid said.

“I really hope they just know, like, 'Hey, we notice you. We love you. Thank you,'" Guererro said.
