Coffee City police indictments climb to 7 former cops

Lonnie Hicks is the 7th former officer of the disbanded department to face felony charges.

HOUSTON — The number of indictments against former Coffee City police officers continues to climb.

Lonnie Hicks is the seventh former Coffee City cop to face felony charges. Henderson County jail records show he was booked and released on $100,000 bond Friday on four counts of tampering with a government record. The indictment alleges Hicks lied on his Coffee City job application about discipline at a previous agency, a 1978 arrest for promoting dangerous drug, and failing to disclose admitted marijuana use.

According to Texas Commission on Law Enforcement records, Hicks worked at Coffee City from Dec. 2022 to Sept. 2023, when the city council shut down the entire force after KHOU 11 Investigates exposed questionable hiring practices at the department.
