KATY, Texas - Harris County Emergency Services is using the new Next Door app to help officials monitor the Katy area.
The app allows residents to communicate what is going on in their neighborhood. Officials are using the app to send notifications about emergency situations like a fire or a gas leak and residents can use the app to report back to officials.
"It gives us a forum for citizens to talk, to use and provide us with information and allow us to respond to their concerns, their questions, their ideas." said Harris County fire chief Jeff Hevey.
The app is free and those looking to sign up can do so on Nextdoor.com. The app is available to download in the iPhone App Store.
