HUMBLE, Texas — A gun was found in a student’s backpack at an Humble ISD middle school Friday, KHOU 11 News confirms.

In a letter sent to parents, interim principal Nachelle Scott said a student at Woodcreek Middle School was charged by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office with a third-degree felony after bringing the weapon from home “to protect himself because of a disagreement among friends.”

The gun was found after Woodcreek administrators and Humble ISD police investigated.

Scott in the letter thanked the school community for proactively sharing information.

“The system worked,” she said.

“In adolescence, it is common for there to be disagreements among friends. Please encourage your children to tell a trusted adult if they are ever worried about a situation so that we can help them resolve their concern appropriately. When necessary, we work in partnership with law enforcement for the safety and well-being of everyone.”
