HISD said it overpaid thousands of employees and has a plan to get that money back

According to the district, the employees -- mostly teachers and assistant principals -- were overpaid.

HOUSTON — Houston ISD overpaid thousands of employees so far this school year, the district said in a statement sent out on Tuesday.

According to HISD, the overpayments were discovered during an internal review last week. A technical error led to around 4,000 employees – mostly teachers and assistant principals – being overpaid.

The employees who were overpaid were notified and the money will be taken back in installments over the rest of the school year, according to the district.

"Ensuring that all employees are paid accurately and on time is a top priority for Superintendent (Mike) Miles, myself, and the entire HISD Human Resources team,” said Chief Human Resources Officer Jessica Neyman in a statement sent to the media Tuesday.

At this point, we don’t know the extent of the overpayment HISD said it made. We’ve reached out to the district for more information.
