Conroe ISD board declines to take action on controversial proposed gender policy

The proposed policy is similar to one in Katy ISD, which requires teachers to notify parents if students want to use a different name or pronoun at school.

CONROE, Texas — The Conroe Independent School District Board declined to take action on the controversial proposed gender policy during its meeting Tuesday night.

The policy forces teachers to notify parents if their child wants to use a different name or pronoun at school, among other requirements.

This policy is similar to Katy ISD's policy, which is currently under investigation for Title IX violations.

During the meeting, board members went back and forth in a heated discussion for nearly 30 minutes.

Ultimately, the majority decided there was no current need in the district for that kind of policy.
