HOUSTON A woman is dead after being hit by a truck Friday night in a west Houston shopping center parking lot, police said.
According to the Houston Police Department, Jonathan Michael Guilbeaux, 18, is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the death of Deborah Ann Palacio, 58, of Houston.
Investigators said Palacio was walking at 9:15 p.m. in a parking lot not far from West Oaks Mall in the 13700 block of Westheimer Road near Joel Wheaton Road. The victim, who was carrying her shopping bags, was then hit by a silver Buick LeSabre driven by Guilbeaux.
Guilbeaux did not stop, but police tracked him down a few miles away after his vehicle stopped working from the damage it sustained in the accident.
Palacio died at the scene, police said.
Police are now running tests to see if the driver was drunk.
