HPD: Suspect in deadly shooting at used car lot surrenders, confesses

According to the victim's family, he was a co-owner of the auto shop and was defending his father when he was shot by a customer.

HOUSTON — A man has been charged with murder in last week's shooting death outside a used car lot in southeast Houston, according to Houston police.

They said Malcolm Jakobe Lewis, 20, turned himself in and confessed on Friday, Oct. 20, four days after the shooting. A second suspect is still on the run.

It happened on Oct. 16 along Fuqua Street near the Gulf Freeway.

The name of the 25-year-old victim hasn't been released. According to the his family, he was gunned down while protecting his father at their family-owned business called Star Motor Company. 

Police said the father and son were assaulted during a dispute with customers. One of them then pulled out a gun and shot the son multiple times. He died on the scene.

No information has been released about the second suspect.
