HPD: Man shot to death outside used car lot in SE Houston

According to the victim's family, he is a co-owner of the auto shop and the shooting resulted from a dispute between him and customers.

HOUSTON — A man has been charged with murder in last week's shooting death outside a used car lot in southeast Houston. 

This happened on Oct. 16 along Fuqua Street near the Gulf Freeway.

Houston police said Malcolm Jakobe Lewis, 20, turned himself in and confessed on Friday, Oct. 20. A second suspect is still on the run.

The name of the 25-year-old victim hasn't been released. 

According to the his family, the used car lot is a family-owned business called Star Motor Company and the victim was killed while protecting his father, who owns the business. 

Family members said the shooting stemmed from a dispute with customers over a business transaction. According to HPD, Lewis and the other suspect assaulted the father and son and then shot the son multiple times.
