HOUSTON — University of Houston police are investigating a string of car tire thefts on campus in recent weeks.

Three theft cases happened in Lot 21A and two more occurred in the Cullen Oaks parking garage on Cullen Blvd.

"Over the past six weeks, the rims and tires of five Toyota Corollas parked on campus were stolen," UHPD told us in a statement.

UH sophomore Lucas Abuan said his car was hit at the parking garage of his student housing. His Toyota Corolla was sitting on bricks at the parking garage of his student housing apartments.

“I just couldn’t believe it honestly," Abuan said. “I see all four of my tires just gone.”

Now he's dealing with the hassles of paying for the damage, filing an insurance claim and not having a car.

“It’s been super stressful. I think the repairs are like a minimum of a thousand. Not only that, I had my tuition due," Abuan said.

It's happened to other students as well.

Abuan said he wants to see more security at the parking garages and lots after paying thousands in tuition fees and hundreds for parking.
