HOUSTON — Authorities have arrested a Venezuelan man in Houston who the Texas Department of Public Safety said is a confirmed Tren de Aragua gang member.

DPS worked alongside the Houston Police Department and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to take Jorgenys Robertson Cova, 32, into custody.

DPS said an investigation was launched after one of its special agents who was assigned to the Houston Texas Anti-Gang Center received a tip about a suspected gang member living in the Houston area back in September. Cova was identified as a gang member by tattoos on his arm, including a five-point crown and a clock and roses, which DPS said are known markings of Tren de Aragua.

As the investigation continued, investigators discovered that Cova was wanted out of Pearland, Texas on a theft charge. He was arrested on October 7, the same day he was scheduled to appear for an asylum hearing in Houston. He was booked into the Brazoria County Jail.

DPS said the state's Public Safety Office is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of suspected or known Tren de Aragua gang members.
