'We just need answers' | Parents of teen killed in apparent road rage shooting on the Katy Freeway pleading for the public's help

Cody Johnson, 19, was found in his vehicle along the service road with gunshot wounds. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez described this as a possible road rage incident.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A heartbroken family is speaking out after their loved one was killed in an apparent road rage shooting near Katy.

It happened Friday, Sept. 27 on the Katy Freeway between Beltway 8 and Highway 99.

Cody Johnson, 19, was found in his vehicle along the service road with gunshot wounds. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez described this as a possible road rage incident.

Johnson was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

With a heavy heart, Amy Juneau described her son, who had just graduated high school.

"He just, he was so happy," Juneau said. “He was a great little brother to his big brother, funny, kind.”

Cody's father, Mike Johnson, said his son had just recently recovered from a serious motorcycle accident in June and was set to start a new job as a car salesman.

"Because he loved cars since he was just a toddler so he was following his dreams," Mike Johnson said. "Everything seemed to be clicking and finally going the right way."

Juneau said Cody was on his way to pick up his girlfriend from work in Katy when he was killed.

"Even if he cut off or someone cut him off, there’s no reason he should be dead because of it," Mike Johnson said. "Value in people’s lives is more than a car or a frustration."

Mike and Amy said their son's vehicle, a black 2013 Chevy Camaro with gold rims, was his prized possession.

"If you were driving on I-10 and he passed you would know it," Mike Johnson said.

They're now hoping that someone driving next to Cody that evening witnessed what happened and can come forward with information to help investigators.

"We just want answers, we want him back more than anything, but if we could just have some type of closure about what happened," Juneau said.

"We just need answers, if it were your child you'd want answers. We can't do it without the public's help," Mike Johnson said.
