17-year-old killed in Harris County, other teens injured in separate overnight shootings

Laurynn Galloway, 17, was shot and killed in north Harris County. In southeast Houston, two 15-year-olds were shot. One of them is in serious condition.

HOUSTON — A violent overnight, stretching from Harris County to Houston, ended with one teenager dead and two others injured.

Just around midnight Sunday, gunshots disrupted the quiet inside a north Harris County apartment complex on Hafer Road south of FM 1960. Investigators said multiple people were there to witness a tragedy.

"They found a 17-year-old female who had been shot multiple times in the parking lot," said Sgt. Jason Brown with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

HCSO said the victim, Laurynn Galloway, had gotten into some kind of fight with a man before he shot her multiple times, killing her.

With so many witnesses, authorities do have something to go on in this case. Right now, it's not enough to determine why or if the shooter targeted the victim or why multiple people were outside to see.

"We were attempting to put together an idea of what happened at the time. At this time, we’re not comfortable, releasing anything as far as suspect information," said Brown.

Roughly half an hour later, 30 miles to the southeast, more shots tragically landed.

This happened on Clearwood Drive between Almeda Genoa Road and the Gulf Freeway around 12:30 a.m.

"We had two teenagers 15 years old shout out here," said Lt. Riley with the Houston Police Department.

Houston police said the two teenagers were standing in this apartment's courtyard when police said a man approached them and started physically fighting with them. At some point, police said the man pulled out a gun and opened fire.

"One was grazed in the lower extremities, another was shot several times in the torso. That one was transported to a local hospital by themselves. And has since been life-flighted to Texas children’s in serious condition," Riley said.

The other victim was grazed in the legs and is expected to survive. As investigators collect evidence in both cases, they ask witnesses to share what they know.
