14-year-old student critically wounded in stabbing outside Jane Long Academy

HOUSTON — A 14-year-old boy is in critical condition after a stabbing in southwest Houston.

It happened Wednesday afternoon in the Sharpstown area, according to the Houston Police Department.

Witnesses told police the 14-year-old was arguing with another juvenile when that person stabbed him and ran away from the scene headed east on Bellaire Boulevard.

Jane Long Academy released a statement saying "police are investigating an occurrence that took place off-campus, after dismissal today near Jane Long Academy that resulted in a student being seriously injured. Counselors will be on campus tomorrow to offer support and guidance to students." 

The teen was taken to Memorial Hermann hospital, where he is in critical condition.

Initially, the HISD police department was investigating the stabbing, but HPD took over the case when the victim's condition took a turn for the worse.
