Suspect arrested in burglaries of 2 Fort Bend County churches

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas — A suspect accused of stealing from two churches in Fort Bend County has been arrested.

Johnie Lee Rodgers, 58, is charged with two counts of burglary.

Detectives identified Rodgers from surveillance video. They said on Saturday, Rodgers store $16, vegetables, box cutters and other food items donated to Zion Missionary Baptist Church in the Fulshear area.

The church’s pastor said the cost of the window the suspect allegedly broke would be close to $600.

Investigators said Rodgers also burglarized the Simonton Community Church that night and left early Sunday morning. Church members discovered the theft and damage to the church around 7 a.m. Sunday.

According to officials, Rodgers allegedly caused $3,000 worth of damage to door frames in the church, as well as windows, cabinets and desks.
