HOUSTON — The teen accused in a stabbing at Sterling High School last week appeared in court for a bond hearing Monday.
Seventeen-year-old Pablo Castaneda's defense attorneys asked the judge to lower his bond from $100,000 to $30,000. His defense attorneys said that's the maximum amount his parents can afford to bail him out.
The judge did not make an immediate decision on that request but said she would review the case for consideration.
Prosecutors argued that Castaneda showed no remorse for his actions, and in court documents, he stated he would do it again.
Castaneda has no prior criminal history, and his defense attorneys said he's been looking forward to graduating in May.
In the meantime, the judge did order Castaneda to be on house arrest. If he does post bond, he would be required to remain on house arrest until there's documented proof that he is no longer a student at Sterling High School and is enrolled elsewhere.
Castaneda is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after HISD police say he stabbed a 16-year-old twice during a fight on campus last week.
That 16-year-old is expected to be okay.
If convicted, Castaneda faces anywhere from two to twenty years in prison and would have to pay a fine of up to $10,000.
