People told to stay inside and lock doors while authorities search for gunman who killed man near The Woodlands

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said they were searching for the person responsible for a deadly shooting on Tuesday night.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — Law enforcement officials urged people to stay inside Tuesday night as they searched for a gunman who killed a 19-year-old man near The Woodlands.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office officials said they were searching for a male who was wearing a black hoodie with white writing, blue pants and a ski mask.

MCSO Lt. Scott Spencer said John Dennis Holmes III was found dead in the street. They got the call around 6:40 p.m. He also said multiple shots were fired and there were bystanders around at the time of the shooting. Investigators said they think the shooter might have known the victim but circumstances surrounding the shooting haven't been revealed by investigators.

Authorities warned people along Oakhurst Drive, which runs from the North Freeway up past Rayford Road and through a neighborhood that's just south of Oak Ridge North.

Authorities said the gunman should be considered to be armed and dangerous and told anyone who sees him to call 911.

They also advised people to avoid the area while investigators searched for the gunman. Those who live in the area were told to stay inside and lock their doors.

On Wednesday around noon, MCSO investigators said the gunman still hadn't been caught although they were still searching the area and tracking down leads. They also didn't know his identity.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call MCSO at 936-760-5800 and choose option 3. You can also call Multi-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-STOP (7867) and refer to case #24A203879. A cash reward is being offered.
