HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Two people were found shot to death inside a car in the Spring area late Wednesday, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
The discovery was made just before 10:20 p.m. on Paloma Drive just south of the Grand Parkway.
The sheriff said deputies initially got a call about a one-car crash around that time. When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered the driver and front seat passenger dead with gunshot wounds. They were later identified as 16-year-old Edgar Campos-Bonilla and 18-year-old David Caballero.
The sheriff said the car veered off the road, and he believed they were shot when it stopped.
“Pretty young and pretty sad situation seeing young people lose their lives to violence, whatever it is. That will be part of our investigation,” the sheriff said.
About a week after the shootings, Gonzalez said Jose Plata, 18, was arrested and charged with capital murder.
The sheriff said he doesn’t suspect road rage in this case and they are trying to track down surveillance video to see who else might have been involved.
