Update: HPD says victims of deadly shooting at Spring Branch park were 16 and 24 years old

HPD says a 16-year-old and 24-year-old were shot and killed Thursday at Bauer Pocket Park in northwest Houston.

HOUSTON — We've learned more about the shooting that left two people dead at a northwest Houston park on Thursday.

It happened around 1:10 p.m. at Bauer Pocket Park on Bauer Park Dr. near Hammerly Boulevard in the Spring Branch area.

In an update from the Houston Police Department on Friday, investigators said the victims who were shot and killed were a 16-year-old male and a 24-year-old male. Their names haven't been released.

HPD said the victims got into an altercation and gunshots were exchanged. They said robbery appears to be the motive.

Another juvenile described as a witness was found a few blocks away and brought in for questioning.

"I'm sure he was frightened of what had happened but because of witnesses and good police work, we were able to locate him without incident," Asst. Chief Alvaro Guzman said.

He said a gun was found near the body of the older victim.

Witnesses said they heard several gunshots.

"Went outside and there was some kid in a hoodie with a backpack on, carrying a gun in his hand, it was pretty crazy," witness Tuan Ho told us.

"He shot the guy, walked all the way out of the park, still has his gun out in broad daylight then walked all the way back over the body," witness Chris Robinson said. "They seemed pretty casual, I guess, about the whole thing, they didn’t run."

One witness said he saw the possible shooter touch one of the victims, presumably to see if he was dead.

"You don’t expect this to happen at a place where there are supposed to be children and families having a good time," Guzman said.

"It's really sad, all of the neighbors came out, one lady was crying," Ho said.
