'Seemed like a happy couple': Neighbors shocked after HPD cop arrested for wife's murder

Belinda Hernandez, who was found dead at her Pearland home Saturday, was an elementary school librarian and 15-year employee at Pearland ISD.

She was an elementary school librarian. He's a veteran Houston police officer. Neighbors said they "seemed like a happy couple." Pearland police say they had never been called to their home before.

But now, Belinda Hernandez is dead and Hilario Hernandez is in jail charged with her murder.

"Really, really surprised," said Debbie Barch, who has lived next door to the couple for a decade. ""Nope, nope – was shocked when I saw all the police cars on the street when I got here."

Barch said she never would have imagined the cop would be accused of killing his wife of more than 30 years.

At Shadycrest Elementary where Belinda worked, students and staff put up purple ribbons because that was her favorite color.

Grief counselors were on hand and will be available for students and staff for as long as they are needed.
