HOUSTON – A Houston-area meat market chain is beefing up security after eleven recent robberies.
Armed security guards are now patrolling La Michoacana meat markets.
In the most recent robbery Monday, a clerk was hurt and the robbers escaped with tens of thousands of dollars. The money was stolen from a check-cashing business inside the meat market. The store was packed with customers.
"I mean, it gets a little scary to come here, but for those that don't have many choices, this is why I come back," said Esmeralda Rangel, a customer.
La Michoacana immediately hired Pedro Garcia to patrol after Monday's robbery.
"People are still money hungry. I mean, there's crime everywhere," Garcia said.
Deputies are reviewing surveillance video with hope that the latest robbers will be identified.
