SEABROOK, Texas — Murder charges have been filed after a woman was found dead in her Seabrook apartment with two children inside.
Initially, investigators thought MaryJayne Collins, 23, was shot to death but later determined she died from blunt force trauma and a stab wound. Police said 22-year-old Dawayland Earnest Hurst is responsible for her death.
The discovery was made on Oct. 4 at an apartment complex on Repsdorph Road. When officers got there, they found Collins dead and rushed to get her body and the kids out of the apartment.
Authorities said they were initially called out on reports of gunshots but the scene escalated to a SWAT situation as they searched for Hurst. Police didn't know where he was, so they called for a SWAT team and told residents to stay indoors. After a search of the complex, police determined Hurst wasn't there.
Seabrook police later identified the suspect as 22-year-old Dawayland Earnest Hurst, who's now charged with murder. He has not been taken into custody.
