Man takes deal, gets 20 years for 2019 drive-by that left 2 dead at filming of music video

Kelvin Badillo is heading to prison for 20 years for ambushing and killing two people who were shooting a rap video in Houston nearly five years ago.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man who pleaded guilty to ambushing and killing two people who were shooting a rap video is heading to prison for 20 years.

Kelvin Badillo was sentenced Friday as part of his plea deal. Two other men received lengthy prison sentences for their roles in the incident.

The deadly shooting happened nearly five years ago on Dec. 27, 2019.

Two people were killed and at least seven others were injured in a drive-by shooting in north Harris County.

The victims were ambushed while they were making a rap music video in the parking lot of a warehouse complex just off the North Freeway south of West Gulf Bank Road.

"Basically, they were ambushed, we believe by individuals in cars and/or foot," Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said at the time. "A lot of shots were fired. We have an extensive scene out here."

A couple of days after the shooting, officials identified the victims as 20-year-old Gonzalo Gonzalez and 22-year-old Jonathan Jimenez.

Gonzalez's mother said her son was hired to film the music video for rapper Cashout Ace but didn't know the rapper personally.

"He was hired to do the video and was just doing his job and didn't come back," Gloria Gonzalez said shortly after her son's death.

Gloria Gonzalez said her son was an only child and had a passion and a gift for photography and videography. Gonzalo graduated from Summer Creek High School in 2017 and was a straight-A student at the University of Houston.

"Gonzalo was a true blessing to everyone. Family and friends keep coming by to pay their respects and I keep hearing the same things from everyone; that they are better people because of him," Gloria Gonzalez said.
