'I just cried' | Pasadena family living in fear after someone set their trucks on fire

Guadalupe Cano and her son believe they know who destroyed the trucks that were parked in their driveway but police don't have enough evidence to arrest them.

PASADENA, Texas — A Pasadena woman and her family were stunned when someone recently set their pickup trucks on fire.

“I was in shock that day. I just cried, cry, cry,” Guadalupe Cano told KHOU 11News. “It was two explosions really loud. "It's burning outside, and I see the flames all the way to the door."

The fire started in Cano's truck and completely melted it to the metal frame. It spread to her son's truck and then got dangerously close to their house, leaving the garage door charred.

The most frightening thing is how the fire started.

"My brother-in-law saw somebody throw something on the truck,” Cano said.

"One of the passenger doors was left open while it was burning,” her son, Austin Alvarado, explained.

They could only afford liability insurance so they're stuck replacing the vehicles that were destroyed. Cano said she used her truck for her job.

“It's not fair that somebody came and burned whatever they want,” Cano told us.

They think they know who did it but they don't have surveillance cameras because they can't afford internet access at their home. They said Pasadena police don't have enough evidence to make an arrest.

“We just want justice because so we don't have to be scared about somebody coming back to do anything else,” Alvarado explained.

“I'm not safe and my kids are not safe, and that's what I care about, my kids,” Cano said.

KHOU reached out to the Pasadena Police Department to learn more, but so far they have not gotten back to us.

"My brothers, my mother and I have worked really hard for what we have, and it is not fair that someone just comes intentionally to destroy what we have achieved," her daughter Marina Lechuga posted on a GoFundMe page. "It’s very rare that we ask for help. In this case, we truly need it."
