HPD: 4 shot when gunfire erupts during fight on Love Street in Fifth Ward

A young woman was killed and three men were hurt in the shooting that started with a street fight between families involved in an ongoing dispute.

HOUSTON — An ongoing dispute between two families led to a deadly shooting Wednesday night in Fifth Ward, according to the Houston Police Department

A 28-year-old woman was killed and three men in their 30s were wounded.

The shooting happened around 9 p.m. on Love Street near Collingsworth Street.

Police said during an argument between the families, one person pulled out a rifle and fired several shots.

The woman was shot at least once and died at the scene.

When police arrived to investigate, they learned a man involved in the altercation suffered a graze wound to the leg. He was found five minutes away on Sumpter Street.

As the investigation continued to unravel, police found out another man involved in the dispute was shot. He was found on Wylie Street, which is just two minutes away from the shooting scene. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police later learned of another victim who took himself to the hospital after being shot in the leg. Police believe this man could have also been involved in the altercation.

HPD is hoping surveillance video from nearby homes could help them find the person responsible.
