Precinct 4 deputy shot girlfriend before killing himself, Houston police say

Police said they believed that it was the Precinct 4 deputy constable was the one who pulled the trigger.

HOUSTON — Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving a Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constable in west Houston Monday night.

Houston police said they believed that it was the deputy constable was the one who pulled the trigger. They added that the man and woman were in a relationship.

Harris County Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman confirmed that the deputy involved is with his office. The deputy was with the patrol division and worked the night shift

The deputy constable had been with Precinct 4 for about a year and had previously came from HPD, Herman said.

This happened just after 8 p.m. at an apartment at the Villages of Briar Forest on Briar Forest Drive just east of Highway 6 near the Energy Corridor.

Police went to check out a report of a shooting at that time. Police said they knocked on the door but since there was no answer, they opened it themselves.

That's when police said they found a woman, 28, who had been shot to death in the living room of the unit. They also found a man, 33, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the bedroom.

Police said neighbors heard the incident. They also said the couple had recently moved in.

“The neighbors downstairs, they were the ones to make that report,” said Commander Hassig with HPD homicide.  "They did hear some gunshots. That made us come out and take a look. Unfortunately, we were able to find those bodies inside."
