Motorcyclist launched over guardrail onto freeway after chase with South Houston police, HPD says

HPD said its vehicular crimes division is helping South Houston police investigate the scene.

HOUSTON — A motorcyclist is dead after crashing into and going over a guardrail on a freeway interchange Friday night, according to the Houston Police Department.

The crash happened on the interchange from the Gulf Freeway headed north to the South Loop headed west at around 10:40 p.m.

HPD said the incident started when officers with the South Houston Police Department attempted a traffic stop on the biker. The biker took off and led officers on a chase on I-45 for about three minutes before it was called off. Officers remained in the area after the chase was called off in an effort to monitor the biker's movements.

That's when an officer noticed the biker had crashed into the guardrail on the interchange and had fallen onto the main lanes of I-45 headed south.

South Houston police officers attempted to provide treatment at the scene as officers with HPD called for help from the Houston Fire Department, which took over first-aid efforts. The man was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD said its vehicular crimes division is helping South Houston police investigate the scene.
