MONT BELVIEU, Texas — A man has been charged with criminally negligent homicide after a single-vehicle wreck in Mont Belvieu killed two teenagers Tuesday morning, according to the Mont Belvieu Police Department.

This happened around 10:30 a.m. on FM 565 North at East Winfree Avenue in Mont Belvieu.

Police identified the driver as Rubin Rene Villarreal, 20. His two passengers were Presley Cauthen, 17, and Kailei Rhodes, 14.

Police said Villarreal left the roadway when he failed to make a curve. He struck a utility a pole and tree, ejecting one passenger. No weather-related factors played a role in the crash, according to Mont Belvieu police.

Cauthen and Rhodes were pronounced dead at the scene.

After Villarreal was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide and charged for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Investigators determined Villarreal also had three outstanding felony warrants out of Harris County. Villarreal is being held in the Chambers County jail on bonds totaling $525,000.
