'He’s looking down on us' | New developments in the fight for answers in fatal road rage incident

A heartbroken family is speaking out after their loved one was killed in an apparent road rage shooting near Katy.

MISSOURI CITY, Texas — The desperate search for who killed Cody Johnson is now in its fifth day. Officials said the 19-year-old died in an apparent road rage incident.

On Wednesday night, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office announced that there would be a news conference with Crime Stoppers on Friday at 9 a.m. to discuss the case.

According to Cody’s family, there are currently no leads in the case and they are pleading with the public to help solve one of the hundreds of road rage cases the city has faced over the past decade.

There is no denying the massive impact Johnson had on his family and friends.

  • “Even though God called him home in a way none of us want to have happen, I know that he’s looking down on us.”
  • “If it wasn’t for Cody I wouldn’t have the courage to come up here and speak.”
  • “I saw him a week ago today.”

Those were some of the words spoken as dozens gathered at Missouri City gym Alphaland to remember the 19-year-old’s legacy. The gym is a place Cody’s mom, Amy Juneau, called his second home.

The devastation was painted across their faces as some were still in disbelief their friend was gone.

“They just wanted to have a way to honor Cody’s memory, because he was such a force here,” Juneau said.

Late Friday night, Cody was found shot in his car and later succumbed to his injuries. Officials believe it to be a road rage incident.

“This is more of a people problem just people not respecting life and just taking the life of an innocent child,” Juneau said.

According to the nonprofit newsroom The Trace, which nationally looks into gun violence incidents, Houston has led major Texas cities in road rage shootings and victims over the past decade.

Juneau said she feels the weight of losing her son and pleads with you to help her get justice for her son.

“Our focus is to find his killer because that’s what he is, he is a killer and we want him found,” Juneau said.

Cody’s loved ones are currently raising money for a Crime Stoppers reward. If you’d like to donate you can reach out to Michael Elmore.
