HOUSTON — Police are searching for a gunman after a deadly shooting in a motel parking lot off the Gulf Freeway early Monday morning.

This happened around 1:15 a.m. outside of the Diamond Inn near Canniff Street,

Police said they were called to the scene after reports of a shooting in the parking lot. When police arrived, officers found a 31-year-old man dead in a car with multiple gunshot wounds. They said the gunman walked up behind the car before shooting the victim.

“He entered the property, went directly to the victim, opened fire, firing more than 10 rounds striking the victim, and then immediately left the property and went northbound on the Gulf Freeway,” HPD Lt. JP Horelica said.

Police said the suspect ran from the scene wearing a dark hoodie, pants, and black sneakers. He was also wearing a two-toned mask that had red and white coloring. They also added that he could be bald.

The victim's identity has not been released and is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

At this time, police said they do not have a motive for the shooting.
