HOUSTON — A Houston man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to killing his girlfriend and his father while on drugs in 2021, according to the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

Larry Britton, 41, was sent to prison for 60 years on a murder charge for killing Joanne Rosas, 40 and Larry Britton Sr., 69, in August 2021.

"This was not an accident or mistake or anything other than an intentional double murder," said District Attorney Kim Ogg. "The decisions that this defendant made have hurt two families immeasurably, and now he will likely spend the rest of his life in prison."

Britton previously faced a capital murder charge but agreed to plead guilty to a lesser murder charge to avoid a life sentence.

The DA's Office said that Britton was using PCP late on the night of the shooting at his home in northwest Houston, where he lived with his father. Rosas also lived at the home.

At some point, Britton shot Rosas in the home and chased his father out of the home before shooting him in the street.

Responding officers found Britton Sr. dead outside. Rosas was still alive at the time and told officers what happened. She died from her injuries around three weeks later.

"These two people are gone forever because of the actions of this defendant—two separate families are still suffering because of what he did," said Assistant District Attorney Phillip White, who prosecuted the case. "It's good that both families were able to get justice."

As a part of the plea deal, Britton is not able to appeal the conviction. He must serve half the sentence before he can be considered for parole.
