Katy ISD assistant principal accused of assaulting student in hallway

The student's mother said the teen had suffered a contusion to the forehead, a strained left shoulder, and a contusion to the right knee.

KATY, Texas — A Katy ISD assistant principal is charged with injury to a child after allegedly pushing a student against a wall, taking her to the ground, and putting his weight on her to keep her down.

According to court documents, the incident happened at Mayde Creek High School at around 7:15 a.m. on Oct. 3

A school officer who was monitoring the hallway said two students were in some sort of verbal exchange, but he didn’t feel it was serious enough to get involved. He said after it was over, the two students went on their way.

He said that’s when assistant principal Adrian Lee Berg stepped in front of one of the students stopping her from moving forward. He then said she tried to get away from him, but Berg grabbed her and pushed her against the wall. The officer said he saw the student try to run away, but said Berg put his arm around the student’s neck and slammed her to the ground.

According to court documents, there was video of the confrontations.

The officer said he radioed for the school nurse to come check the student out.

Katy ISD police said they interviewed Berg, who said after the tardy bell rang, he saw the officer tell the student to go to class but said he noticed the students getting into another altercation. He said he stepped in front to keep the student from going after the other student.

He said she tried to go around him and when she did, she ran into a column, hitting her head and forehead. He did admit to taking her to the ground. He said he wouldn’t let her up until she calmed down.

Later that morning, the student’s mother said her daughter had headaches and was light-headed. The mother took her to Texas Children’s Hospital to be checked out and said she did have a contusion to the forehead, a strained left shoulder, and a contusion to the right knee.
