Investigators release sketch of suspect in murder of 2-year-old Ivory West

The child's parents say whoever shot their child is "scum" and are pleading someone identifies the killer.

HOUSTON — The Harris County Sheriff's Office on Monday released a sketch of a man involved in the murder of a Spring child.

HCSO said Ivory West, who also went by TJ, was outside with his father and another man in the 2900 block of Trailing Vine in Spring when the unknown suspect and another person approached on foot with the intent to rob them. During the course of the robbery, the suspect fired a weapon, striking Ivory and his father. Ivory died from his wound.

His father is now out of the hospital after being shot more than 10 times.

"It's been real hard," said Ivory West Sr. "I've been taking it real hard. It's just a bunch of pressure on me. He really didn't deserve none of that at all."

Ivory's mother said the last month since her son was killed has been heartbreaking.

"Very hard not waking up to him," Dorothy Harris said. "Not going to sleep with him. Just not him being around. You'd think he was with his daddy. But he's gone."

Harris County Sheriff’s Office investigators on Monday released a sketch of a possible suspect in the July 2 shooting death of 2-year-old Ivory West.

HCSO described the suspect as "a slim-built black man in his 20s to early 30s." He may be about 5-foot-6.

Detective Alfred Vera said this sketch is crucial to finding the suspect.

"Cowards do that," Vera said. "Someone who doesn't care for life does that and that's why we're here today trying to get justice for Ivory West Jr."

Anyone with information is urged to call (713) 274-9226 or Houston Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
