HOUSTON — A 16-year-old was found dead in an apartment complex elevator near the University of Houston on December 12. Now, an 18-year-old is charged with his murder for coaching him to commit an armed robbery that led to his death, according to court documents.

The documents say Larry Holmes told the teen to rob two men at gunpoint at the complex on Elgin Street between Scott Street and Cullen Boulevard. The teen was killed during the incident.

Security guards at the apartment heard several shots fired before a resident on the 17th floor called an elevator and found the teen, according to the Houston Police Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The security guards told police they saw two men running away.

The apartment, which is near multiple universities, houses many students. Students who live at the complex told KHOU 11 at the time that it's easy to gain access to the building.

A judge gave Holmes a $275,000 bond for the murder charge. According to court documents, he has other pending charges from separate cases, including evading arrest, aggravated robbery and unlawfully carrying a gun.
