The driver reportedly tried to avoid the police car, but investigators said they were moving too fast.

HOUSTON — A person driving the wrong way down Smith Street in Houston's Midtown crashed into a Houston Police Department vehicle and two other cars early Saturday morning, police say.

This happened around 1 a.m. near the intersection of Smith Street and Tuam Street.

HPD said the driver may have been intoxicated and DWI units were headed to the scene. The driver reportedly tried to avoid the police car, but investigators said they were moving too fast. After hitting the police car, the driver continued and hit another vehicle stopped at the intersection before hitting another vehicle that was parked.

The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital. They are expected to be OK. The people in the other cars that were hit were not hurt.
