HOUSTON — Police released the body camera video Wednesday after a man was shot by an officer in downtown Houston last month.
Police said the man survived multiple gunshots and was taken to an area hospital.
The shooting happened just before 10 p.m. on Capitol Street near Bagby Street on Nov. 18. Houston police said last month that officers responded to a call about a property manager being threatened with a gun.
When police arrived, they found a woman on the sidewalk and detained her. The video shows the man walking toward the officers and the woman from a distance. Police told the man to raise his hands. The man did not raise his hands and made a sudden motion.
Police fired multiple rounds of bullets at the man.
Police said officers attempted to treat the man’s injuries at the scene. The man and woman were taken to the hospital.
A knife was found at the scene.
The officer wasn't hurt.
Per department policy, the incident will be investigated by HPD’s Internal Affairs Division, the Special Investigations Unit, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
Police released a video summarizing the incident and showing the body camera video from the officer who fired at the man and the officer detaining the woman. This video contains profanity.
The officer involved in the shooting has just under two years of experience and is assigned to the downtown unit.
No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
