'She's been feuding with him for years' | 75-year-old woman accused of killing longtime neighbor

Daryl Evans's widow spoke exclusively with KHOU 11 News about witnessing the deadly confrontation.

HOUSTON — The crime scene is long cleared along Baybriar Drive in Missouri City but memories of a shooting last Thursday evening remain painfully fresh.

“I was standing right here when she shot him,” Tammy Evans said about the shooting death of her 66-year-old husband, Daryl.

Evans said she and her husband had just gotten home from grabbing food. She told us they had to navigate around a longtime neighbor who was standing in their way in the street.

Shots rang out moments later.

"And she went, 'bop, bop, bop.' Shot him three times, just like that," Evans said.

She and others along the street said the incident followed years of feuding with an across-the-street neighbor named Barbara Jean Blue who'd complain about noise and kids playing, among other things.

Now, Blue, 75, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Charges could be upgraded as the investigation continues.

"He’s lying there bleeding and there’s nothing I can do, you know, nothing I can do when I’m trying to help,” Evans said.

She said Blue threatened to shoot her, too, while she was on the phone with dispatchers. Technically, Daryl was still alive when he left his longtime neighborhood.

"They brought him to the hospital but after two surgeries, he died the next morning,” Evans said.

She said she's thankful she has family to lean on.

Meanwhile, there’s a good chance Blue, whose home is decorated for the Fourth of July, will spend the holiday in jail.

"He was my best friend," Evans said. "He was an amazing husband.”

We reached out to Blue's attorney, Lindsay Lopez, and got this response:

"I was just recently appointed to represent Ms. Blue. I am scheduled to go visit with her shortly. All facts and allegations are still under investigation. She is currently charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Her bond is currently set at $400,000. As we all know, there are two sides to every story and I look forward to fully and thoroughly investigating this matter."
