Police find man dead after neighbor calls 911 on group of men with rifles in parking lot in west Houston

Police said the caller reported that a group of five to six men with rifles were shooting guns in the area.

HOUSTON — Officers found a man dead in an apartment with a "large amount of narcotics" after a neighbor called 911 to report a group of men shooting guns in the parking lot, according to the Houston Police Department.

This happened at an apartment complex on West Oaks Plaza Drive, which is near Richmond Avenue and Highway 6. Officers got the call around 11 p.m.

Police said the caller reported that a group of five to six men with rifles were shooting guns in the area. When officers arrived, they noticed that the neighbor's garage and interior doors were wide open and shell casings were found nearby. When they entered the apartment, they found a man dead.

HPD said they believe this was connected to a narcotics deal gone bad.

Police could not give a description of the suspects, but said they took off in a vehicle.

Investigators were working to gather surveillance video and talk to potential witnesses in the area.
